Note: new crimes are no longer being added to EveryBlock Los Angeles.

In this section of EveryBlock, you can find out about recent crimes near you.

The Los Angeles Police Department's data doesn't include information about every crime — just grand theft auto, theft from a vehicle, personal or other theft, aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, rape and homicide. The information includes the incident's location, date, time, case number and police division.

The data comes from LAPD Crime Maps, the crime mapping Web site of the Los Angeles Police Department. The data is updated throughout the day, and EveryBlock publishes new reports daily.

In July 2009, the LAPD improved its crime-reporting system. Any attempts to compare 2009 numbers with earlier data should be made with this information in mind.

The police department provides resources to analyze crime trends on its Crime Maps and COMPSTAT page. Included are citywide crime statistics.

Also available are tips from the police about how to prevent crime. Included are tips for private residences and businesses.

The police department has an E-Policing page and a frequently asked questions page. You can also submit commendations and complaints for department employees.
